In this article you will learn about Definition list in HTML.

A definition list is a list of terms and corresponding definitions. It is a list of items (terms), with a description of each item (term).

A definition list starts with a

tag (definition list).

Each term starts with a

tag (definition term).

Each description starts with a

tag (definition description).

See the code below to see the Definition example:

dd>The .NET Framework is a new and revolutionary platform created by Microsoft for developing applications. The most interesting thing about this statement is how vague it is — but there are good reasons for this. For a start, note that it doesn't develop applications on the Windows operating system. Although the Microsoft release of the .NET Framework runs on the Windows operating system.

<
b>
C#.NET

C#, as mentioned earlier, is one of the languages you can use to create applications that will run in the .NET CLR. It is an evolution of the C and C++ languages and has been created by Microsoft specifically to work with the .NET platform. Because it is a recent development, the C# language has been designed with hindsight, taking into account many of the best features from other languages, while clearing up their problems. Developing applications using C# is simpler than using C++, because the language syntax is simpler.

ASP.NET

<
dd>ASP.NET 3.5 offers a different code-behind model than the 1.0/1.1 days because the .NET Framework 3.5 has the capability to work with partial classes (also called partial types). Upon compilation, the separate files are combined into a single offering. This gives you much cleaner code-behind pages. The code that was part of the Web Form Designer Generated section of your classes is separated from the code-behind classes that you create yourself. Contrast this with the ASP.NET 1.0 .aspx file's need to derive from its own code-behind file to represent a single logical page.

<
b>
ADO.NET

<
dd>In older editions of SQL Server, you had to use many different tools depending on the function you were trying to perform. In SQL Server 2008, the challenge for Microsoft was to avoid increasing the number of management tools while increasing the features and products that ship with SQL Server. They accomplished this by creating one tool for business-intelligence development (Business Intelligence Development Studio - BIDS) and another for management of the entire platform, including business intelligence and the database engine (SQL Server Management Studio). BIDS is based on a lightweight version of Visual Studio 2008.
